CR Fuels Seeking EPC Contractor for Alberta Biofuels Complex

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned CR Fuels Incorporated (Strathmore, Alberta) is currently seeking a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for its Alberta, Canada, biofuels complex, which is expected to start construction in fall 2009.

The company has already awarded front-end engineering design package to Technip (OTC:TKPPY) (Paris) for the ethanol plant, which will utilize Delta-T Incorporated (Williamsburg, Virginia) process technology. The biodiesel technology will be provided by Axens North America (Houston, Texas).

CR Fuels' plan is to create a bio village that will consist of a 25 million-gallon-per-year wheat/corn-based fuel-ethanol plant and a 30 million-gallon-per-year biodiesel plant utilizing canola oil as feedstock. The village will also have a 4-megawatt manure-fired cogeneration unit and potentially a canola seed crusher that would be provided by Crown Iron Works (Chicago, Illinois).

The company expects to award an EPC contract within the next month or two, and construction is expected to start in fall 2009. Construction costs are estimated to be in the $275 million range.

The plant will be located in the heart of Canada's wheat and canola producing areas in Strathmore, about 30 miles east of Calgary next to Cattleland Feedyards' livestock feedlot, which has partnered with the company to take the wet distillers grains generated by ethanol production and provide the manure for the cogen unit. The plant will also capture an estimated 40,000 tons of carbon dioxide from the ethanol plant for oil and gas production.
