Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--State-owned Cubapetróleo (CUPET) (La Habana, Cuba), owner and operator of the 44,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Nico Lopez Refinery, which is in the bay area of La Habana, is planning a partial turnaround for Plant 1 Area of the refinery.
The partial shutdown is scheduled to begin in September 2010 and is expected to last 50 non-production days. During the turnaround, units such as the 40,000-BBL/d Crude Unit and the 12,000-BBL/d Vacuum Unit will undergo maintenance, as well as repairs and a replacement of vital parts of the processing units.
As regards the Crude Distillation Unit, the refinery's authorities are evaluating the complete substitution of the main processing column, although a thorough repair is being considered as well. Regarding the Vacuum Unit, main work will be performed in the furnaces, where refractory exchanges will be performed alongside turbine reparation and the implementation of new pumps.
The biding process for interested companies will start in March 2010; selection will be carried out by the "Ministerio de la Industria Basica" (Ministry of Basic Industries).
