Dean Foods to Renovate Houston Dairy Facility

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Oak Farm Dairy Incorporated, a subsidiary of Dean Foods Company (NYSE:DF) (Dallas, Texas), has begun expansion at the company's milk production plant near downtown Houston, Texas. When completed two years from now, the plant will be modernized and expanded to improve operational and supply-chain efficiencies. The City of Houston and Harris County awarded the company a four-year tax abatement to help with the expansion.

Overall capital investment is estimated to be $42 million and will involve relocating the parking lot and constructing an approximately 80,000-square-foot building addition, as well as installing state-of-the art production equipment and upgrading cooler facilities. While site work has already begun, actual building construction is expected to kick off in early spring. RFW Construction Group (Dyersburg, Tennessee) is providing design and construction for the project.

Located on a 22-acre site for 71 years, the Oak Farms' Houston facility produces 7 million gallons of dairy milk and distributes products in the Houston region, Beaumont, Brenham and Port Lavaca. The facility employs more than 500 people.
