Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Deutsche BP AG (Bochum, Germany), a subsidiary of BP plc (NYSE:BP) (London), awarded a five-year framework contract in November to Aker Solutions (OSL:AKSO) (Lysaker, Norway) for engineering and construction management projects at its 88,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Emsland refinery in Lingen, Germany. The projects will cover the expansion, revamp and support for health, safety and environment management, turnaround management and the implementation of environmental legislative requirements, as well as maintenance-driven projects.
The refinery is considered one of Europe's leading conversion plants. It started operation in 1953 and provides the local fuel market with petroleum products from crude oil and other feedstock, such as jet fuel, light heating oil, chemical precursor products for regional consumption. Products also go to customers in The Netherlands. The company's products are sold through BP, Aral and BP Refining & Petrochemicals.
According to BP authorities, the alliance will serve to boost efficiency and support the implementation of the company's capital and revenue expenditure plans for the next five years. The companies have worked together at the Gelsenkirchen Refinery, also owned by BP. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, Aker Solutions has become a world leader in project management, design and construction of major projects in several industries such as oil & gas, refining & chemicals, petrochemical processing, power generation and acid plants.
