Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cooperative-owned E Energy Adams LLC (Adams, Nebraska) has started grinding corn and producing fuel ethanol at its new plant in Adams, Nebraska. Corn grinding started through the plant's milling system on October 27, and fuel ethanol began flowing from the facility on October 31, officially beginning initial production. Construction of the plant started in June 2006 and lasted 16 months.

The plant utilizes ICM's (Colwich, Kansas) licensed ethanol process technology and was built by leading ethanol plant builder Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota). The plant will have a nameplate production capacity of 50 million gallons per year and will process more than 18 million bushels of locally grown corn annually. The plant will also produce about 160,000 tons per day of distillers grains, a by-product of ethanol production.

The plant is on a 200-acre site about 2 miles northwest of Adams in Gage County.

Construction costs to build the plant are in the $80 million range.

Ethanol plant development in Nebraska has been booming over the past five years, as one would expect with a state nickname of "The Cornhusker State." Nebraska has 21 operation fuel ethanol plants that produce a combined 1.3 billion gallons.

Nine additional plants are under construction, and 37 are in the pre-construction stage. If all planned projects get the approvals to be built, some $6.4 billion in capital dollars will be spent to further build out Nebraska's ethanol production industry.

Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 123 ethanol plants in operation and 290 plants under development. It also covers 32 operational biodiesel plants and 75 biodiesel plants under development.
