Endesa Chile to Start Operations on 240-Megawatt Quintero Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Endesa Chile (NYSE: EOC) (Santiago, Chile), the Chilean subsidiary of the Spanish major utility Endesa (MCE:ELE) (Madrid, Spain), expects to start commercial operations of its 240-megawatt (MW) natural-gas-fired power station in the city of Quintero, located on the coastal region of Valparaiso, in the beginning of August.

Though a specific date for the start of operations has not been scheduled yet, Endesa Chile personal is finishing the startup test on the two GE Energy (Atlanta, Georgia) Frame 9E 120-MW gas turbine/generator sets. Initially, the plant will operate on diesel fuel oil while a liquefied natural gas regasification plant is built by GNL Quintero S.A. (Santiago) near the power plant. Once this regasification plant is operational, it will feed the power plant with natural gas. Quintero Power Station will be connected to the Interconnected National Power Grid (SIC) by a transmission line that will connect it to the San Luis Substation, at a 220-kilovolt tension rate.
