Enviva Plans for Second Fuel Pellet Plant in North Carolina

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Enviva LP (Bethesda, Maryland) is planning a second wood fuel pellet plant in North Carolina. The plant will be built in Garysburg and do business under the name Enviva Pellets North Hampton LLC.

As Governor Bev Perdue said, "North Carolina is quickly becoming a hub for alternative energy solutions." Evidently, Enviva agrees. Enviva is investing $60 million in the project. Enviva will receive a $300,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund to locate in the state. The project will be on a 120-acre site along I-95 in the Northampton County Commerce Park. Construction is planned to start in August 2012 and when completed about a year later, the Garysburg plant will produce 400,000 tons annually and employ about 30 people. The product will be sold to the U.S. and European biomass markets for home and power generation uses.

Enviva's recently finished commissioning its pellet plant in Ahoskie, North Carolina, which will produce 350,000 tons of pellets annually. The company's pellet plant Perkinston, Mississippi, churns out 50,000 tons annually, and its facility in Armory, Mississippi, produces 45,000 tons per year.
