Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Unit 5, the first 1,000-megawatt (MW) unit in China Huaneng Group's (Beijing) Qinbei Power Plant Phase III expansion, was connected to the power generation grid on February 16, 2012, according to an announcement from the project contractor, Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company (ZTPCC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Company Limited (Beijing), on February 17.
Huaneng Qinbei Power Plant is in Wulongkou Town, in central China's Henan province. The power plant is owned and operated by Henan Huaneng Qinbei Power Generation Company Limited (Jiyuan, Henan), a company jointly invested by China Huaneng Group (55%), Henan Construction Investment Company Limited (Zhengzhou, Henan) (35%), Henan Electric Power Company (5%) and Henan Jiyuan Construction Investment Company Limited (5%) in December 2001. Prior to the commissioning of Phase III, the power plant had four operational, supercritical, 600-MW coal-fired units built in phases I and Phase II.
Plans for the Phase III expansion involve two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units with a total investment of $1.2 billion. The first of these units was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to replace a larger unit in December 2010. However, the second unit has not yet received final approval.
As the first 1,000-MW, coal-fired unit to be invested by China Huaneng Group in Henan province, the unit is furnished with flue gas desulfuration and a selective catalytic reduction device. Presently, the project owner is working on the approval of the second 1,000-MW, unit as well as the construction of other support facilities, such as the special railway. Upon completion, the total installed capacity of Qinbei Power Plant will be expanded to 4,400 MW, and it will become the largest power-generating enterprises in Henan Province.
