FPL Energy Constructs Texas Size 1,789MW Power Plant in Forney

The following is an Advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Inc; Houston, Texas) FPL Energy, LLC, a subsidiary of FPL Group (NYSE: FPL) (Juno Beach, Florida) is constructing one of the largest gas-fired merchant power plants in the state of Texas. The Forney Generating Facility is a 1,789MW power plant that will cost an estimated $1 billon. Construction started in June of 2001 and commercial operation is scheduled for the summer of 2003. Electricity from the plant will primarily be sold into the Texas wholesale market.

Cobisa Corporation (Houston, Texas), the original developers of the Forney Generation Facility, sold the project to FPL and will have a 5% ownership interest in the plant.

FPL Energy awarded Duke/Fluor Daniel a turn-key contract to provide engineering, procurement, and construction services on a fixed price basis. The combined cycle plant will utilitze six GE Frame 7FA combustion turbines along with heat recovery steam generators and two steam turbine generators.
