The Hongping Pump-Storage Power Station, located at Jing'an County in central China's Jiangxi province, is the first large-scale, pump-storage power station to be built in the Jiangxi province and one of the largest pump-storage power stations planned in the world. The power station has a total planned capacity of 2,400 megawatts (MW), to be built in two phases; of which, four 300-MW, single-pole, Francis convertible pump-storage units will be built in Phase I, with a total investment of about $740 million. The power station mainly comprises the upper reservoir; the lower reservoir, which was built based on a natural river channel; the water passage system; the underground powerhouse; and the surface substation.
State Grid Xin Yuan Holding Company Limited (Beijing), a subsidiary of the SGGC, is responsible for the development and future operations of the project. HydroChina Huadong Engineering Corporation (Hangzhou, China), a subsidiary of China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group Corporation (HydroChina) (Beijing), is performing the design and engineering for the project.
