GNL Quintero Inaugurates LNG Complex

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--GNL Quintero, the joint venture between BG Group (OTC:BRGYY) (Berkshire, England), ENAP (Santiago de Chile, Chile), Endesa Chile (Santiago de Chile, Chile) and Metrogas (Santiago de Chile, Chile), formally inaugurated GNL Quintero, a liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex, on the coast of central region V on October 22.

The project includes the construction of three LNG storage tanks. The first has a storage capacity of 14,000 cubic meters, has been operating since June, and was part or the first phase of this project.

Chicago Bridge & Iron (NYSE:CBI) (Amsterdam, Netherlands) is building both the second and third tanks, which will reach a capacity of 160,000 cubic meters each. The terminal is scheduled to be fully operational by June 2010.

Once the plant starts operating, Chile will stop to import gas from Argentina. As mentioned in the 24th World Conference in Buenos Aires this month, Argentina may use the existing infraestructure to import gas from its neighbour country.
