Highwater Ethanol Reaches Halfway Mark on Construction of Minnesota Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Highwater Ethanol LLC's (Lamberton, Minnesota) fermentation and storage tanks can be seen miles away on the flat Minnesota landscape as construction on the company's ethanol project reaches the halfway point.

Construction on the estimated $110 million plant started in November 2007, and, barring any setbacks from the upcoming winter weather, the plant is scheduled to be completed and go into operation by April 2009.

Once in operation, the plant will produce 50 million gallons of ethanol annually, along with 160,000 tons of distillers grains. The plant will require 18 million bushels per year of locally grown corn feedstock. Highwater selected the design-build team of ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) and Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota) to construct the facility.

The plant is on a 120-acre site in the Lamberton Industrial Park along U.S. Highway 14, a mile and a half west of Lamberton in Redwood County. Rail service to the plant will be provided by Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Corporation (Sioux Falls, South Dakota).

Minnesota currently has 18 operational ethanol plants. VeraSun Energy Corporation (NYSE:VSE) (Brookings, South Dakota) has completed the construction of a plant in Welcome, Minnesota, but delayed commissioning until the corn markets improve. Another plant under construction in Janesville is expected to go into operation in November.
