Imperium Renewables to Resume Production at the Country's Largest Biodiesel Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Imperium Renewables Incorporated (Seattle, Washington) and subsidiary Seattle Biodiesel LLC (Aberdeen, Washington) will soon resume biodiesel production at the country's largest biodiesel production facility, in Grays Harbor, Washington.

In December of 2009, a 10,000-gallon glycerin tank ruptured, causing the plant to close. Damaged equipment has been replaced, and the neutralization system has been re-designed to ensure the over-pressurization issues that caused the rupture will not happen again.

Full production is expected to happen as early as next week, and the plant received a delivery of vegetable and canola oil feedstocks via rail car earlier this week. When running at full production, the plant has a nameplate production capacity of 100 million gallons per year of BQ-9000 certified biodiesel.

Construction on the plant began in the fall of 2006, and it went into production in August 2007. It was built by JH Kelly LLC (Longview, Washington).
