Indian Sugar to Set Up Integrated Sugar Mill in Maharashtra

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)-- Indian Sugar Manufacturing Company Limited (Bijapur, Karnataka) (ISMCL) has rolled out a plan to set up a new Sugar Mill in the Solapur district of Maharashtra. Due to be developed at Turk Pimpari village the Sugar mill will have a capacity of 5,000 tons of cane crushed per day (TCD).
The project will also involve setting up of a New Ethanol Unit of 60 Kilo liters per day (KLPD) and a new cogeneration power plant of 25 megawatt (MW) capacity. ISMCL has an operational sugar factory at Havinal village in the Bijapur district of Karnataka. The construction of the sugar mill is expected to begin by the end 2013 and the plant is likely to commence production by mid-2015.
According to ISMCL, this project will significantly increase the Company's capacity of sugar production, power generation and also ethanol production. ISMCL currently has a sugarcane crushing capacity of 2,500 TCD through its Havinal unit and after adding the new sugar unit the company's capacity will increase to 7,500 TCD.
Maharashtra's Sugar Industry is one of the most notable and large-scale sugar manufacturing sectors in the country. The pace of growth of sugar industry in the state has been massive over the past few years. As the largest sugar-producing state in India, Maharashtra contributes a third of India's overall sugar output.
Sugarcane is one of the chief crops grown in Maharashtra. Sugar Industry in the state has seen a spectacular growth owing to different conducive conditions in the state including the most favorable climatic condition for growing sugarcane. Sugar industry in Maharashtra is majorly controlled by the cooperative sector. Each farmer owns a stake in the sugar factories. During the ongoing 2012-13 crushing season, from October 2012 until September 2013, the total sugar output from Maharashtra state has been estimated at 7.9 to 8 million tons.
