Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Jiangsu Electric Power Construction No.3 Engineering Company (JEPC3) (Zhenjiang, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), placed the first bucket of concrete for the main powerhouse of China Guodian Corporation's (Beijing) 2,000-megawatt (MW) Taizhou Power Plant Phase II expansion project on June 26, 2013, following the placement of a large mass concrete for the chimney on June 21, according to an announcement from the CEEC on June 28. Construction on the project has kicked off.

The concrete has a total volume of 7,500 cubic meters, which is the largest foundation slab in the project.

The Guodian Taizhou Power Plant is located on the northern bank of the Yangtze River in Yonganzhou Town of Taizhou City, in eastern China's Jiangsu province. The plant has a total planned capacity of 4,000 MW, of which two 1,000-MW, coal-fired units built in Phase I were commissioned in December 2007 and March 2009, respectively.

The Phase II expansion project plans to have two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, secondary reheat, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices. As the first ultra-supercritical, secondary reheat, demonstrative coal-fired unit in China, the main turbine, generator and boiler equipment for the project are to be supplied by Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai).

The project received consent from the National Energy Administration (NEA) to kick off pre-stage preparation in May 2012. Groundbreaking of the project was held in September 2012. According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operations in 2015.
