Mexico's CFE Plans Tender for Contract on 240-Megawatt Hermosillo Combined-Cycle Plant

Español
Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Córdoba, Argentina)--Mexican state-owned Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) (Mexico City) plans to hold a tender for a long-term service agreement contract for its 240-megawatt (MW), combined-cycle power plant in the city of Hermosillo, in the Northern state of Sonora.

The contract will cover planned and unplanned maintenance activities on the 150-MW Siemens SGT6-5000F W501F combustion turbine for the combined cycle plant, its generator and its auxiliary equipment. At the moment, CFE is outlining the terms of the contract, and the bidding documents are expected to be released during the second half of September.

The contract will have an extension of 12 years, and it is expected to come into effect by the end of the year or the beginning of 2012, in order to cover a combustion inspection that should be performed on the turbine by March or April 2012.

Other than the combustion turbine, Hermosillo Combined-Cycle Power Plant is composed of a heat-recovery steam generator (HRSG) built by Cerrey de México S.A. de C.V. (Monterrey, Mexico), driving a 90-MW Skoda power-condensing steam turbine. These two components will not be covered by the long-term service agreement, and CFE itself will be in charge of the maintenance.

CFE has an installed capacity of approximately 40 gigawatts (GW), mainly generated from fossil fuels (70%) and hydroelectric resources (25%). CFE also has the only nuclear power plant in Mexico, the 1.6-GW Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant, as well as geothermal facilities and windfarms.
