Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned ethanol start-up Show Me Ethanol LLC (Carrollton, Missouri) has completed construction and is now on track to produce 55 million gallons of fuel ethanol per year, becoming the sixth fuel ethanol plant operating in the "Show Me" state.

Construction of the estimated $88 million plant started in March 2007 and was completed two months ahead of schedule. The plant was designed and built by leading ethanol-plant-technology provider and builder ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas).

The plant will process over 21 million bushels of corn per year and will receive feedstock from Ray Carroll Grain Growers Co-op, one of the investors in the project. Corn will be stored at the co-op's silos, which have a capacity of 2.4 million bushels, and will be conveyed to the ethanol plant for grinding. The 176,000 tons of distillers dried grains generated from the plant will also be marketed through the co-op. An open house is scheduled in July to showcase the state-of-the-art plant to the community.

With the Carrollton plant now online, Missouri has an overall ethanol production capacity of 220 million gallons per year (gal/yr) through six operating facilities. The other plants are owned by Golden Triangle Energy in Craig (20 million gal/yr); POET in Macon (45 million gal/yr) and Laddonia (20 million gal/yr); Mid Missouri Energy in Malta Bend (40 million gal/yr) and Lifeline Ethanol in Saint Joseph (40 million gal/yr).

Jay Brunson, Industrial Info's Vice President of Alternative Fuels, adds, "There are plans to build as many as fourteen additional ethanol plants in Missouri, but not a single project has broken ground this year due to high corn process and unfavorable market conditions."

Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 157 ethanol plants in operation and 530 plants under development. It also covers 98 operational biodiesel plants and 245 biodiesel plants under development.
