Nesika Energy Expects to Fire up New Kansas Ethanol Plant This Month

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned ethanol start-up Nesika Energy LLC (Scandia, Kansas) is buttoning up construction activity, testing equipment and taking in corn in anticipation of starting up its new fuel ethanol plant in Scandia just 14 miles south of the Kansas-Nebraska state line.

Unlike the giant plants of more than 100 million gallons per year being built today, Nesika will be a small 10 million-gallon-per-year plant and will utilize truck transportation to get to market versus the unit train method of getting to market that has been plagued by lack of service. The plant will also not have to worry about shipping distillers grains as the 80,000 tons of wet distillers grains produced at the plant annually will go straight to Premium Feeders cattle feed lot just next door.

The plant is also the smallest plant ever designed by leading ethanol technology producer ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) and was built by Free Country Design & Construction Incorporated (Atchison, Kansas).

Nesika took in its first load of corn last week and will start taking in more on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, and will require 3.6 million bushels of corn annually to produce at the 10 million-gallon-per-year level.

Site work began on the estimated $20 million plant in December 2006, and once fully operational, will create 15 new jobs for the rural community.

Jay Brunson, Vice President of Industrial Info's Alternative Fuels Group, said: "Small plants could be the future of ethanol production not only in the U.S. but globally. Everything is scaled down: the plant's footprint, costs to build, smaller payroll and property taxes and no need for expensive rail infrastructure."

Industrial Info's Ethanol Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging alternative fuels market. This database covers 124 ethanol plants in operation and 504 plants under development. It also covers 68 operational biodiesel plants and 205 biodiesel plants under development.
