Nevada Power Completes $45 Million Expansion at Harry Allen Power Station

Nevada Power Company (NPC) (Las Vegas, Nevada), a subsidiary of Sierra Pacific Resources (NYSE:SRP) (Reno, Nevada), has completed a $45 million expansion project at the Harry Allen Power Station located in Apex, Clark County, Nevada. Construction for the project began in August 2005, and was completed during the first quarter of 2006. NPC commenced full commercial start up for the project in late May.

The project consisted of adding an 80-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems MS7001EA combustion turbine generator to the existing site. The new unit operates in a simple cycle peaking capacity generating power during periods when power demands are at their highest (during both the summer and winter months). Harry Allen Power Station currently has a generating nameplate capacity of 80 megawatts. Now that the new expansion project is complete, the plant is capable of producing a total of 160 megawatts to meet the growing demands of Nevada Power’s customers.

Lockwood Greene Constructors, headquartered in Spartansburg, South Carolina, a subsidiary of CH2M HILL of Englewood, Colorado, provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (E+P+C) services for the project.
