One Earth Energy Starts Construction on Illinois Fuel Ethanol Plant

Plans call for the construction of a nameplate 110 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant that will process more than 36 million bushels of corn annually to produce the renewable fuel.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned ethanol start-up One Earth Energy LLC (Gibson City, Illinois), fighting the snow and the elements, has begun construction on its fuel ethanol plant in Gibson City. The company closed on its $110 million loan in October, and with the $66 million in project equity raised from an equity drive, construction can now proceed full strength.

Plans call for the construction of a nameplate 110 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant that will process more than 36 million bushels of corn annually to produce the renewable fuel.

The company has retained Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota) as its design-build contractor, and the licensed ethanol-process technology will be provided by ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas).

The estimated $175 million project is on an 84-acre site near Alliance Grain Company's grain elevator in Gibson City roughly 25 miles north of Champaign in Ford County.

Construction is expected to take nine months to complete, considering a large amount of site preparation and dirt work started back in the fall, and the target date for plant start-up has been set for July 2009.

Illinois now has six ethanol plants currently under construction. Plants being built are located in Canton, Big River, Hennepin, Annawan and East Saint Louis. After the additional six plants go online, Illinois' capacity for producing fuel ethanol will grow by 434 million gallons annually.
