Garcia Company Incorporated (San Jose, California) is currently building a new tortilla chip manufacturing plant in Lincolnton, North Carolina (Plant 1063166).
The company has agreed to purchase a build-to-spec building from local developer, The Keith Corporation (Charlotte, North Carolina) and the structure is currently being built by general contractor Choate Construction out of Charlotte.
Plans call for construction of a 60,650 square foot building to be built in the Lincoln County Industrial Park on Finger Mill Road, about 30 miles northwest of Charlotte. Currently, the foundation is being poured on the building and once competed; Garcia will install two organic chip production lines along with offices and a distribution center to serve markets in the east.
The initial investment in the project is in the $5 million range and the company plans to hire about 25 employees. Future plans are to dump an additional $4 million into the plant and hire 50 more people as market shares grow.
Completion and start-up of the plant is expected by mid July of 2004.
R.W. Garcia Company was founded in 1984 by Bob and Margaret Garcia. The company currently operates two plants manufacturing organic tortilla and low carb chips. Plants are located in San Jose, California and Tampa, Florida.
