Power Industry Pushes Kentucky Industrial Project Activity Up 15% in 2007

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). During the first four months of 2007, Industrial Info reported 83 projects in Kentucky, which is 15% above beginning of the year forecasted project activity in the state. Since that time, an additional twelve projects have been reported bringing the total number of projects to 95, representing more than $5.8 billion in total investment value. Why the increased activity in Kentucky? The Power Industry has added some big dollar projects this year and is commanding about 70% of the project spending reported in Kentucky. Power generators are looking at 19 projects ranging from coal to wind to hydroelectric power unit additions. The largest project is a $2.1 billion integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) being planned by Cash Creek Generation LLC (Louisville, Kentucky).

Outside of the Power Industry other industries seeing significant project development in Kentucky are Chemical Processing and Industrial Manufacturing. In the Chemical Processing Industry, Arkema Incorporated (Calvert City, Kentucky) is expanding its refrigerants and kynar manufacturing plant.
