Prairie Horizon Agri-Energy Breaks Ground on $56 Million Fuel Ethanol Plant in Kansas

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 40 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will convert about 15 million bushels of corn annually into the renewable fuel. The plant will also produce an estimated 125,000 tons per year of dried distiller’s grains, a by-product of ethanol production used as a feed additive.

The company selected ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) to provide the ethanol process technology and build the plant. Construction is expected to take about twelve to fourteen months to complete, just in time for the new corn harvesting season. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on September 20, 2005.

Once the facility becomes operational, it’s expected to create about 32 full time jobs.

Prairie Horizon is the 8th plant to be constructed in Kansas and will add 40 million additional gallons to Kansas’s current annual capacity of 137.5 million gallons. Another 160 million gallons are underdevelopment in the state and scheduled to be on-line by early 2007.
