(ES:EVA) (Madrid, Spain), has begun equipment installation at a new rice processing and packaging plant in Memphis, Tennessee, located on 31 acres adjacent to existing company operations. Estimated at $70 million, the project involved the construction of a 421,000-square-foot building, which includes a 128,000-square-foot rice processing facility; a 52,000-square-foot regular rice packaging facility; a 43,000-square-foot instant rice packaging facility; a 141,000-square-foot warehouse and storage facility, and an office. Riviana Foods retained Pickering Incorporated (Memphis, Tennesse) to provide master planning, architectural and civil engineering. Linkous Construction Incorporated (Memphis) performed shell building construction.

Upon completion of the new facility, Riviana will relocate production and packaging from its Houston plant to Memphis. The company is shifting processing and distribution entirely to Memphis because of the central location and proximity to rice crops in Arkansas. The company's headquarters will remain in Houston.
