SMA Begins Construction of Solar Inverter Manufacturing Plant in Denver

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--SMA Solar Technology AG (ETR:S92) (Niestetal, Germany), one of the world's largest manufacturer of inverters for solar power generation will invest about $22 million in the company's first North American manufacturing plant, which will be located in Denver, Colorado. The plant is expected to open in the first half of 2010.

Solar inverters convert the direct current (DC) electricity produced by the panels into alternating current (AC) electricity, which can be used by electrical equipment and sent the electrical grid. SMA will produce the Sunny Boy, Sunny Central and Sunny Island product lines for the North American market. SMA, the Etkin Johnson Group (Denver), the State of Colorado and the City of Denver have signed agreements for the establishment of the plant, the largest production facility for solar inverters in the U.S. Construction of the plant began in October with hopes of completing the plant and rolling out the first production of inverters by fall 2010.

Murray & Stafford Incorporated (Denver) was selected to provide general construction and engineering for the inverter manufacturing plant. Murray & Stafford chose Lakewood Electric (Denver) for electrical work, and Trinity Mechanical Incorporated (Boulder, Colorado) for mechanical work.
