South Houston Green LP (Texas City, Texas) a 50/50 joint venture between BP Global Power (NYSE: BP) (London, United Kingdom) and Cinergy Solutions, an affiliate of Cinergy Corporation (NYSE: CIN) (Cincinnati, Ohio), has begun commercial startup of the $275 Million additions (Plant 1052426, PEC 01008186)to the Texas City BP CHP Cogen located near BP's petroleum refinery (Plant 1001047) in Texas City, Galveston County, Texas.
The 600 megawatt (MW) expansion project began construction in September 2001 and was completed late December 2003. Commercial operation of the project began February 2004. This expansion project consisted of a 3-on-1 combined cycle power island equipped with three 167 MW GE Power Systems Frame 7FA combustion turbine generators, three Deltak heat recovery steam generators, and a single 102 MW Dresser Rand Double Case Extraction Steam Turbine Generator. With the startup of the new additions, BP will be able to shut down units that have become inefficient and reduce NOx emissions at the site by 50%.
Burns & Roe Group Incorporated headquartered in Oradell, New Jersey was awarded the engineering contract on the project. S & B Engineers & Constructors Limited (Houston, Texas) was the General Constructors.
