The following is an Advisory by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Southern Company Services Inc (NYSE: SO) (Birmingham, Alabama), a subsidiary of The Southern Company (Atlanta, Georgia), is completing phase 1 of a planned 1181 MW combined cycle natural gas-fired Goat Rock power station for its sister operating company Georgia Power Company (Atlanta, Georgia). The Goat Rock power station will be located close to the company's existing hydroelectric plant in Lee County Alabama.
The first phase will produce 571 MWs and consists of two GE 7FA combustion turbine/generators, two Vogt/NEM duct-fired heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and a GE steam turbine/generator set. The first phase is scheduled to come on line for commercial operation May, 2002.
Georgia Power was founded in 1883 and services over 1.9 million customers. Georgia Power with its generating capacity of over 15,000 MW is the largest of the Southern Company subsidiaries.
