Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Investor-owned Spirit Ethanol LLC (Jamestown, North Dakota) has officially canceled plans to build a fuel-ethanol plant in the Spiritwood Energy Park in Spiritwood, North Dakota. Plant developer Harold Newman was given a deadline of June 1 to start construction, and the project went from being on hold to canceled.
The ethanol piece of the energy park was to be a 100 million-gallon-per-year fuel-ethanol plant that would process more than 38 million bushels of locally grown corn annually. The park also includes a coal-fired power plant that is nearing the halfway point in construction completion.
Great River Energy (Spiritwood, North Dakota) is building a 99-megawatt power plant in the park that is being built Babcock & Wilcox (Barberton, Ohio). The general contractor on the project is NewMech Companies Incorporated (Saint Paul, Minnesota). The plant is expected to be commissioned in March 2010, and Cargill Malt will receive excess steam from the power plant.
Lakota Biofuels LLC (Mandan, North Dakota) is the only remaining fuel-ethanol plant proposed to be built in North Dakota.
