Texas Leads U.S. with $26 Billion in Industrial Projects Under Construction
Texas is the No. 1 state in the country for industrial project construction in 2010 according to the Top 10 States for Industrial Construction compiled by Industrial Info.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Texas is the No. 1 state in the country for industrial project construction in 2010 according to the Top 10 States for Industrial Construction compiled by Industrial Info. Right now, there are 184 projects, representing more than $26 billion, under construction in the Lone Star State. Almost twice as much construction activity is under way in Texas when compared to the second on the list, which is California with 98 projects totaling $9 billion.

The Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads all industries in Texas in terms of value, with 24 projects totaling $8.9 billion. Samsung Austin Semiconductor LLC (Austin, Texas), a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Company Limited (SEO:005935) (Seoul, South Korea), is spending $3.6 billion to convert a 3-story, 1.5 million-square-foot building to a cleanroom production area to manufacture low-power "Systems on a Chip." The second leading industry for active construction in Texas is the Petroleum Refining Industry, which has 44 projects totaling about $4.7 billion. Port Arthur, Texas, is a hotbed of activity as both Motiva Enterprises LLC (Houston, Texas) and Total Petrochemicals USA Incorporated, a unit of Total SA (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France), are adding delayed coker units at their refineries in Port Arthur for a combined total of about $800 million. Bechtel Group Incorporated (San Francisco, California) is providing engineering and construction services for Motiva. Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Sugar Land, Texas) is performing engineering and construction services for Total.
