SK Engineering and Construction Limited (Irvine, California) has been earmarked as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. More than likely, real work won't start at the site in Wharncliffe, West Virginia, until the spring of 2012, putting the facility in line for completion in the summer of 2016.

There are about 52 coal gasification projects in the works in North America, and not a single plant has mobilized equipment to a site and started turning dirt. Construction and capital investment for their projects nears $60 billion in forecasted capital spending.
