Brazilian Company Awaits Financing to Resume Construction of Ethanol Project

Construction began in late 2007, but was stopped during 2008 due to the worldwide economic crisis, which badly affected the Brazilian sugarcane industry.

The total investment value of the project is about $230 million. The company built the industrial and civil buildings and installed 5% of the equipment. However, it still has to purchase the remaining equipment and contract electric and mechanical work.

The project is the city of Prata, in the Minas Gerais state, in southeastern Brazil. The plant is designed to process up to 1 million tons of sugarcane during the first campaign, producing 600,000 liters of ethanol per day, as well as 15 megawatts of electric energy. After the plant begins to operate, the company plans to add a sugar production unit.

Usina Zanin Açucar e Alcool Limitada was founded in 1949. It owns and operates a sugarcane-processing plant in Araraquara, Sao Paulo state, which produces fuel ethanol, sugar and electric energy.
