Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The diversion gate for China Power Investment Corporation's (Beijing) Banduo hydropower station was successfully closed for reservoir impounding on October 23. The successful beginning of reservoir impounding will provide a firm foundation for the timely commissioning of the project.
The Banduo hydropower station is located at the exit of the Banduo Gorge on the Yellow River, at the boundary of Xinghai and Tongde counties in the Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Region. The power station is mainly comprised of a 76.45-meter-high dam, flood discharge gates and a river-bed powerhouse, which is furnished with three 120-megawatt (MW) Kaplan hydraulic turbine-generator sets will have a total installed capacity 360 MW. Construction on the project kicked off on September 7, 2007. Hydropower Engineering Bureau No.4, Bureau No.11 and Bureau No.15 of Sinohydro Corporation (Beijing) is responsible for the construction of the project.
The project is the second cascade hydropower project on the upstream river section of the Yellow River above the Longyangxia hydropower station. The project is being developed by Huanghe Hydropower Development Company Limited (HHDC) (Xining, Qinghai), a regional subsidiary of China Power Investment. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will begin operations by the end of this year. Timely commissioning of the project will greatly assist HHDC in achieving its objective of having installed capacity of more than 10,000 MW by the end of 2010. HHDC currently owns eight large and middle-sized hydropower stations, including Longyangxia, Laxiwa, Lijiaxia, Gongboxia, Suzhi, Yanwoxia, Bapanxia, Qingtongxia, and has a total installed capacity of 8,700-MW in operation.
In addition to the project, HHDC's 1,020-MW Jishixia hydropower station, the fifth cascade hydropower project on the upstream of the Yellow River, will have all three units in operation within this year.
