Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--After encountering engineering gaps and contractor scheduling, the biogas power plant that is being built for Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) in Napoleon, Ohio, is back on track. CH4 Biogass LLC (Atlantic Beach, Florida) has partnered with the soup maker to build Ohio's first biogas plant, which will make good use of biomass material generated from potato peels, tomato remnants and other food waste from soup, sauce and beverage production.

Concrete foundations and one of the two digester tanks are beginning to take shape. Within a month, there should be enough of a building for the company to start mobilizing equipment and contractors at the site.

The plant, when completed late this year, will be known as Napoleon BioGas LLC and will generate 2.8 megawatts (MW) of green energy, adding to Campbell's 9.8-MW solar energy system that was completed back in 2011.

The plant will process some 450 tons of biomass waste per day in two digesters that will produce methane gas. The gas will be used to fire two 1.4-MW Jenbacher J420 gas engine generators.

Construction is expected to take about 12 months to complete, and the system is expected to be fully operational by December of this year. Construction costs to build the plant are estimated to be in the $10 million to $11 million range.
