Port of Stockton Welcomes Another Alternative Fuels Facility as Community Fuels Readies New Biodiesel Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Biodiesel start-up American Biodiesel Incorporated (Encinitas, California), doing business as Community Fuels LLC (Stockton, California), is readying equipment in anticipation of soon beginning fuel production at its new biodiesel plant at the Port of Stockton in Stockton, California.

The company is shooting for an early October 2008 production start and is currently testing equipment, with pre-commissioning activities under way. Construction started back in July 2007, and Community Fuels acted as its own construction manager, hiring contractors and coordinating building construction and equipment installation.

The plant will have the capacity to produce 7.5 million gallons per year of biodiesel and will utilize waste grease and animal oil feedstock. The company is currently performing research to utilize algae as a feedstock and could boost production capacity to 15 million gallons per year. The company also developed the technology used in biodiesel production.

Construction costs to build the plant were in the $8 million range. The plant is located within the Port of Stockton at 809-C Snedeker Avenue.

Community Fuels joins Pacific Ethanol Incorporated (NASDAQ:PEIX) as the second alternative fuels facility within the port. Pacific put its 60 million-gallon-per-year ethanol plant into operation in August. Additional biodiesel plants in the port area are planned by Crimson Renewable Energy (Bakersfield, California) and USBioDiesel Group (San Francisco, California).
