Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) (P&G) (Cincinnati, Ohio) recently ended its 2024 fiscal year with a slight growth in earnings and sales over the previous fiscal year, which the consumer goods company attributed to strong demand for household staples. P&G is at work on a swath of expansions and additions at its factories to accommodate continuing demand growth. Industrial Info is tracking roughly $2 billion worth of active and proposed projects from P&G, more than 70% of which is attributed to U.S.-based projects with a medium-to-high likelihood of beginning construction as planned.

P&G's image is most often defined by its personal care items, particularly its soaps, detergents, cosmetics and toiletries. The company is at work on major additions to two existing facilities: the $110 million expansion of its factory in Greensboro, North Carolina, which produces its Pepto-Bismol, Vicks, Nyquil and Dayquil brands, and the $180 million expansion of its soap factory in Saint Louis, Missouri, including a new Cascade Dishwashing Detergent line. The Greensboro project, which started construction in late 2022, could wrap up as early as the third quarter, while the Saint Louis project, which kicked off last September, is set to finish in the first quarter of 2025.

P&G is proposing at least three other additions to its existing soap and detergent facilities: an expansion to its factory in Coolidge, Arizona, which will add production lines for its Tide PODS, Downy and Bounce brands; an expansion to its factory in Lima, Ohio, which will boost output of its Gain and Downy laundry product lines; and a packaging line addition at its factory in Andover, Massachusetts.

The Coolidge project could begin construction as early as the third quarter, while the Lima project could begin in the fourth quarter. The Andover additions could begin as early as the spring of 2025. Subscribers can read detailed reports on the Coolidge, Lima and Andover projects.

In a recent quarterly earnings-related conference call, P&G executives noted the beauty and personal-care segments were growing "extremely well," singling out the Native, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences and Pantene brands as the company's top performers. "North America hair care [sales] is up 12%, global hair care is up 9%, and the personal care business is doing very well," said Andre Schulten, the chief financial officer of P&G, in the conference call.

Last year, P&G announced it would move the manufacturing operations for its Gillette brand out of Boston to Andover, with other P&G businesses also to be granted space in the expanded facility. The company is planning a separate expansion at the Andover factory to accommodate additional production for razors and other Gillette items, which could begin construction in the third quarter of 2025. Oral-B Laboratories, a P&G subsidiary focused on dental care, recently acquired a site for its planned toothbrush plant in Iowa City, Iowa. In April, the Iowa City Council voted to rezone a former community college campus to a general industrial zone for the plant, which is expected to produce powered toothbrushes, among other items; construction is expected to kick off within the coming year. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

Executives at P&G expect all-in sales for the company's 2025 fiscal year, which started at the beginning of July, to be 2% to 4% higher than that of fiscal 2024, which totaled $84.04 billion. Capital spending is expected to be 4% to 5% percent of P&G's fiscal 2025 net sales.
