Shuttered Louisiana Biodiesel Plant to Restart Next Week

Vanguard Synfuels purchased the previous Farmland Industries-owned site in 2003. The company modified the existing equipment to produce biodiesel and began production in 2006. However, due to the economy, production was halted in late 2007, and the plant sat idle for a year. In 2008, Jatrodiesel Incorporated (Miamisburg, Ohio) was contracted to replace and upgrade the existing equipment, enabling the plant to use multiple feedstocks.

The biodiesel plant sits on a 300-acre site on Abe Hall Road in Pollock, approximately 16 miles north of Alexandria, Louisiana. The plant's nameplate production capacity is 15 million gallons per year and will utilize multiple feedstocks of animal fats, yellow grease and vegetable oils.

Vanguard Synfuels' biodiesel plant will be the second operational plant in Louisiana. Four other plants are in the planning stages.
