Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Ethanol plant development and construction has been on the rise over the past year and is now picking up steam as the winter weather settles down allowing for more favorable building conditions. Over 80 plants are currently under construction representing over six billion gallons of additional fuel ethanol capacity. More plant construction is on the way and plants are getting bigger, in terms of both investment and capacity. Here is a quick look at the top ten developing U.S. ethanol projects in terms of total investment value.

Devron Renewable Energies is awaiting permit approval on a 200 million-gallon per year ethanol plant that will be located in Imperial, Nebraska. Cost to build the facility could reach upwards of $600 million if the company decides to add a cogeneration power plant into the mix. The project is scheduled to start construction in the fall of 2007 and be online by early 2009.
