Vadxx Energy Begins Construction on Synthetic Oil Plant in Akron, Ohio

Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK) (Twinsburg, Ohio) was awarded the engineering, procurement, construction and management contract from Vadxx, along with general contractor Geis Company (Streetsboro, Ohio), which is responsible for construction of the estimated $20 million plant.

The plant will take some 60 tons per day of scrap plastic to produce 300 barrels of petrochemical products used to make diesel fuel and lubricants. The plant is located on a five-acre site at East Waterloo Road and Kelly Avenue, where a 25,000-square-foot building has been constructed. The front end of the facility will include a 12,000-ton-per-year Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to sort the plastic arriving from various recycling locations.

The project is expected to be completed early next year and in full operation soon after. The plant originally was to be built in Cleveland.

In the longer term, Vadxx plans to construct 100 additional units that will divert 4 billion pounds of waste, creating more than 2,000 jobs and overall production of 500 million gallons of synthetic oils.
