Vadxx to Begin Commissioning at Commercial-Scale Plastics-to-Fuel Plant in Ohio

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Vadxx Energy LLC (Cleveland, Ohio) is progressing with construction of its synthetic oil plant in Akron, Ohio, and expects to begin commissioning activities in two weeks.

The estimated $29 million modular plant was designed by Rockwell Automation Company (NYSE:ROK) (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), which also acted as the engineering, procurement, construction and management contractor. Rockwell Automation adjusted Vadxx's original idea to make the construction of future plants more cost-effective and efficient. Geis Companies (Streetsboro, Ohio) constructed the process building.

The plant requires only about two to five acres, a 25,000-square-foot production space, and a large plastic melting kiln that will process 60 tons of waste plastic per day. It will convert that waste plastic into 12,000 gallons per day of synthetic liquid petroleum that is classified as a mid-distillate diesel product.

Vadxx believes it could have 10 to 20 of these plants up and running across the country in five years, assuming the Akron plant performs to specifications under full processing capacity.

The plant is designed to run 24 hours per day, seven days a week upon completion. It is located at 1200 East Waterloo Road in Summit County, and it is expected to create 15 new jobs.
