Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction on Guodian Bengbu Power Generation Company Limited's (Huaiyuan, Anhui) 1,200-megawatt (MW) Phase II expansion at the Bengbu Power Plant is expected to kick off in the first half of 2012, according to the Development and Reform Commission of Bengbu City.
Guodian Bengbu Power Plant, located in the Macheng Economic Development Zone of Huaiyuan County, is a key energy construction project listed in the nation's 11th Five-Year Plan (2005-10). The power plant has a total planned capacity of 2,400 MW, including four 600-MW supercritical coal-fired units, which will be built in two phases. Phase I construction began in May 2007. The first unit was commissioned in December 2008, and the second unit was commissioned in April 2009. As reported, in the first three quarters of 2011, the two units of Phase I had generated 5.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, an increase of about 12% year over year.
Phase II will provide another two 600-MW coal-fired units on an area of 18.56 hectares. So far, preparation of pre-stage supportive documents for the project has been completed, and the project application document has been submitted to the Development and Reform Commission of Anhui province.
Guodian Bengbu Power, as the owner of the project, is optimizing the design scheme and preparing for the tendering of turbine, boiler and generator equipment. The required land for Phase II has been marked off, and the land acquisition will be completed shortly. The Electric Power Planning and Engineering General Institute (Beijing) is currently conducting the review and examination on the feasibility study report prepared by Anhui Electric Power Design Institute (Hefei, Anhui) for the project.
