Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Jeffrey Energy Center, a power station in Saint Marys, Kansas, shut down its 720-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Unit 1 after freeze-ups in some of the drum-level transmitters. The station is owned by Westar Energy Incorporated (NYSE:WR) (Topeka, Kansas).
Officials are still investigating the cause, but say the turnaround should be brief. Repairs are under way, and officials anticipate returning the unit to service later today, or possibly by Friday, January 9, if there are no delays.
Jeffrey Energy Center has three generating units with a total capacity of 2,160 MW at full load. Units 2 and 3 will continue to operate while repairs are performed on Unit 1.
