U.S. Drillers Add Rigs - U.S. energy firms this week added oil and natural gas rigs for a fifth week in a row. The oil and gas rig count rose by two to 348 in the week ending December 23. U.S. oil rigs rose to 264 this week, their highest since mid-May, while gas rigs rose to 83, their highest since the end of April, according to Baker Hughes data. (Reuters)

U.S. Crude Oil Inventories Decline - U.S. crude stocks, gasoline and distillate inventories fell last week, as refineries reduced runs ahead of the year-end, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday. Crude inventories fell by 562,000 barrels in the week ending December 18 to 499.5 million barrels. U.S. gasoline stocks fell by 1.1 million barrels. Distillate stockpiles fell by 2.3 million barrels. Refinery crude runs fell by 169,000 barrels per day in the week, the EIA said. (Reuters)

Crude-by-Rail Cars Rupture in Washington - Three BNSF Railway train cars carrying crude oil ruptured and spilled an unknown amount of fuel after their derailment in Custer, Washington, on Tuesday. Ten BNSF Railway tank cars carrying crude oil derailed and three caught fire around noon local time. (Reuters)
