Korea's public energy companies are expected to invest more than 53 trillion won (US$48.2 billion) in offshore wind power projects.
There are 34 offshore wind power projects being promoted by public energy companies under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
One project, a 2.4-gigawatt offshore wind farm on the southwest coast, is promoted in three stages: a first-stage demonstration complex, a second-stage demonstration complex and a third-stage diffusion complex. It was completed in January of this year, with a scale of 60 megawatts (MW) -- three MW each for 20 units.
In Korea, where land area is small, new energy projects using the sea are part of the future.
