Research by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The World Steel Association recently released its short-range outlook for steel demand, forecasting global steel demand growth of 5.8% in 2021, followed by 2.7% in 2022. This comes on the heels of flat demand in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
China's demand is driving steel consumption, while the rest of the world has contracted. But increasing pandemic vaccinations and market conditions are expected to increase demand in the rest of the world in the near term.
There are more than 5,700 active steel-manufacturing projects worldwide, totaling $340 billion in value, according to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence Platform. China, India and Iran are the top three countries for steel manufacturing projects.
