ExxonMobil on May 1, proceeded with a lockout of union workers at its 350,000-BBL/d Beaumont, Texas, refinery, after no agreement was worked out with the United Steel Workers (USW) on a contract extension. Plant operations will be handled by temporary workers and managers until an agreement can be reached. A duration for the lockout is undisclosed at this time.
Flint Hills, today May 3, is in the process of restarting the 16,500-BBL/d Delayed Coker 21-2, after a shutdown on April 27, at its 320,000-BBL/d Pine Bend, Minnesota, refinery. The 16,500-BBL/d Delayed Coker 21-1 was restarted on May 2 after being shut down on April 29. Additionally, four units will begin a 35-day planned maintenance turnaround on July 12.
Shell Sarnia restarted the 35,000-BBL/d Crude 1 (Sour-Mixed) and 13,000-BBL/d Vacuum 1 units, on May 1, after completing planned maintenance at its 71,000-BBL/d Sarnia Refinery in Corunna, Ontario, that began on April 14.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) continues to operate its 760,000-BBL/d Jamnagar SEZ Refinery in India at approximately 97%, due to low demand as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 380,000-BBL/d CDU 1 has been operating at 93% since April 13, and is tentatively expected to resume full throughput by May 15.
Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has delayed the restart of the 33,000-BBL/d ARDS Unit 1 at its 346,000-BBL/d Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery in Kuwait. The unit is now expected to come online by May 15. The unit has been under an unplanned shutdown since April 15, due to a technical issue in a fractionation column. Separately, KNPC has delayed the restart of the 33,000-BBL/d ARDS Unit 2 due to additional repairs needed. Expectations are to complete repairs and restart the unit by May 15.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) continues with an unplanned shutdown of the 96,000-BBL/d CDU 1 at its 300,000-BBL/d Mangalore Refinery in India, for production planning and minor maintenance. The shutdown began April 11, and expectations are to restart the unit by May 10.
