For the eight-month period of January through August, coal production totaled 2.6 billion metric tons, up 4.4% over the same period in 2020, and up 4.2% over production in 2019.
Coal imports amounted to 28.05 million metric tons in August, up 35.8% over the same month in 2020. For January through August, imports totaled 197.69 million metric tons, down 10.3%.
