Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--U.S. automobile production, which has suffered greatly for nearly a year amid the global semiconductor shortage, is showing signs of getting worse, according to The Washington Post.

Over the past several months, major car manufacturers like Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan), General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) (Detroit, Michigan), Toyota Motor Corporation (NSYE:TM) (Toyota City, Japan), Hyundai Motor Company (Seoul, South Korea) and Daimler AG (Stuttgart, Germany) have been forced to curtail production for weeks at a time, in response to the lack of semiconductor chips. Some chip manufacturers do not expect any improvement until 2023, due to the large number of chip users and the length of time it takes to bring new chip fabrication facilities into operation.

The chip makers also are waiting on the U.S. Congress to approve $52 billion in federal subsidies aimed at boosting domestic chip manufacturing, but the House of Representatives has yet to pass the measure even though the Senate has approved it and the White House supports it.

Industrial Info is tracking 26 active semiconductor projects, valued at $29.37 billion, in the U.S. More investments are expected if and when the federal subsidies are approved.
