Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Confirmed as a Category 1 storm as of Tuesday morning, Hurricane Pamela was less than 300 miles from Mazatlan, Mexico. The National Hurricane Center expects Pamela to strengthen to a Category 3 storm before making landfall early Wednesday morning.
Under its current path, only a small number of industrial plants are in jeopardy of damage or disruption of electricity, the largest of which is the 616-megawatt (MW) Mazatlan II power plant, owned by CFE Generacion III EPS.
There are no petroleum refineries, oil, gas or petrochemical plants currently at risk. Once it makes landfall, the hurricane is expected to lose strength quickly and pose some risk of flooding in the southernmost parts of Texas.
