Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Without construction machinery, industrial projects on the scale we see today simply couldn't happen. Manufacturers of construction equipment help meet a basic, fundamental need in the construction of power plants, liquefied natural gas facilities, factories and other infrastructure. Industrial Info is tracking more than $800 million in active U.S. projects that will expand the country's production of construction equipment. The Southwest and Midwest market regions represent the highest amounts of spending, together accounting for more than $630 million in investments, although the highest number of projects is occurring in the Great Lakes region.

Accounting for a substantial portion of the project activity in the Southwest market region is JCB North America's (Savannah, Georgia) grassroot facility being built on a 400-acre site in San Antonio, Texas. The factory will be JCB's second North American factory, joining the company's original location in Savannah. "Texas is a vibrant and growing economy, and the state offers great advantages in terms of a central location, as well as good highway and port access. The city of San Antonio also has a well-established skills base, which makes it a very attractive place to set up a factory," said JCB Chief Executive Officer Graeme Macdonald in a press release about the project.

Construction on the plant kicked off in early June and is expected to enter commercial production in 2026. The facility will manufacture telescopic handlers, also called "reach forklifts," and ariel platforms, referred to as "cherry pickers." Excavators are heavy pieces of equipment with a boom, arm and bucket that can be maneuvered from a rotating cab to move earth and debris. In Superior, Wisconsin, Exodus Global LLC (Superior) is expanding its existing 90,000-square-foot plant with a 27,000-square-foot building addition that includes both manufacturing and warehousing space for the production of excavator machinery attachments that can be used in a range of sectors, including construction, demolition and mining. Construction has been ongoing for about a year and is expected to wind down in the near future. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.

Road construction and maintenance is a seemingly never-ending task throughout much of the U.S., and key equipment suppliers such as Weiler Incorporated provide the equipment needed for this specialized job, including graders, compactors, road wideners and pavers. New orders for equipment must be coming in, as Weiler is expanding its manufacturing facility in Knoxville, Iowa, by constructing a 16,100-square-foot building addition to house new production lines as well as research and development facilities. When completed next summer, the new line will expand the plant's production of equipment such as pavers, rollers and material-transfer vehicles. KMW Limited (Sterling, Kansas) manufactures a range of loaders, backhoes and attachments at three plants in Kansas. In its hometown of Sterling, KMW will build a new production facility as well as a new home for its headquarters. Construction is expected to begin later this year and will entail building an approximately 430,000-square-foot building. Construction is expected to be completed in mid-2026, although the size of the acquired land allows room for future expansion if needed. "With even greater capabilities and using state-of-the-art machinery and automation, we look forward to making the new KMW headquarters a growing show piece for the state of Kansas," said Lubomir Stoklasek, owner of KMW parent company Agrostroj Group (Pelhřimov, Czech Republic). One of the most familiar names in construction equipment, Caterpillar Incorporated (NYSE:CAT) (Irving, Texas), plans next year to begin adding new equipment and systems to its 821,000-square-foot plant in Seguin, Texas, not for the construction equipment itself, but for an engine that drives these machines. Components for the new C13-D 13-liter diesel engine will be manufactured in nearby Schertz, and the engines will be assembled in Seguin. Caterpillar describes the C13D as a "rugged and power-dense engine made for machines that continuously tackle tough jobs in a number of industries including mining, construction, materials handling, aircraft ground support and more." The new engines are expected to begin rolling off the line in late 2026. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
