Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In Japan, full-scale production of a carbon dioxide capture unit and hydrogen units as an alternative to coal has not yet begun, but construction is gradually progressing with support from government agency The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
Yamanashi Hydrogen Company Incorporated (Kofu, Japan) with NEDO are constructing two green hydrogen-production units with a capacity of 2,551 cubic feet per day that will start operations by 2025. The feed is electricity and water, and the produced green hydrogen will be sent to a nearby food plant.
NEDO also is constructing a liquefied carbon dioxide unit with Japan CCS Company Limited (Tokyo, Japan) as a demonstration unit, to find effective ways to utilize carbon dioxide. Operations will begin by fourth-quarter 2024.
As we have seen in recent years, chemical companies in Japan are now required to produce environmentally friendly products as part of the trend toward a carbon-free society, and this movement is growing step by step.
